Dental Benefits
WellKids by PA Health and Wellness covers many dental services. You should always see a participating dentist. There are no copayments for routine dental services. You do not need a referral from your PCP to see a dentist. If you have trouble finding a participating dentist in your area, WellKids by PA Health and Wellness may allow you to see a dentist not in our network. Some of the dental services require prior authorization and may have limits as to the number of times you can receive the service. Braces are not covered just for cosmetic reasons, such as some of the teeth may be out of alignment or look crowded. Braces are covered when they are medically necessary and needed to correct a handicapping malocclusion.
Covered dental services include:
- Two dental exams per year
- Dental X-rays
- Two dental cleanings per year
- Fluoride varnish applications – up to 4 per year
- Sealants
- Dental fillings – including tooth-colored restorations
- Different types of dental anesthesia including nitrous oxide
- Crowns for primary and permanent teeth
- Root canal and endodontic services
- Dentures
- Fixed bridges
- Periodontal services and gum treatment
- Extractions including removal of impacted teeth
- Orthodontic Treatment (Braces)
- Orthodontic treatment requires prior authorization.
