How do I know if my child qualifies for CHIP?

Based on your family’s size and income, your child may be eligible for Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) if he or she is:

  • Younger than 19 years old
  • A U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or a lawfully residing noncitizen
  • A resident of Pennsylvania
  • Uninsured
  • Not eligible for Medical Assistance

Children and teens can get CHIP coverage regardless of family income. There is no upper income limit for CHIP. Your child may be enrolled in free CHIP, low-cost CHIP, or full-cost CHIP.

Most families are eligible to receive CHIP at no cost. Families with higher incomes will have low monthly premiums and copayments for some services. Families with incomes below the CHIP threshold may be eligible for Medical Assistance.
